Gold Medalalist, The 2019 Wideman International Piano Competition

Born in Novorossiysk, Russia in 1997, Pianist Simon Karakulidi earned the 2019 Gold Medal of The Wideman International Piano Competition in Shreveport, Louisiana. In 2019 alone, Simon won an amazing FOUR medals (three gold medals and one bronze medal) in international piano competitions. Having just completed his bachelor’s degree at Park U, Simon is now at Yale University School of Music pursuing his Master’s Degree.

Biography

Born in 1997 in Novorossiysk, Russia, Simon began his studies with prof. Mira Marchenko at Central Musical school in Moscow in 2013. Simon is a prize-winner of  the First Vladimir Krainev Piano Competition in Moscow (2nd prize and two special awards), and “Astana Piano Passion” piano competition (1st prize).  Simon participated in master-classes with world-acclaimed musicians such as Leon Fleisher, Arie Vardi, William Grant Nabore and Pavel Nercessian. In June 2018 Simon was awarded Enlight Prize at the Art of Piano Festival in Cincinnati, Ohio. In 2019 Simon was awarded the 1st Prize from Ann & Charles Eisemann International Young Artists Competition and the Grand Prize of Naftzger Competition. In the summer of 2019 Simon was a finalist in the competition at IKIF in NYC. This November Simon was awarded the 3rd prize at Olga Kern International Piano Competition and few weeks after he became a gold medalist at Wideman Piano Concerto Competition. Since August 2016 Simon is studying with Stanislav Ioudenitch at Park University’s International Center for Music under the full scholarship.
