Update: SHMUKLER WINS “BEST PERFORMANCE OF A MOZART CONCERTO” AWARD AT 16TH CLIBURN
Congrats to Park International Center for Music graduate student, Ilya Shmukler. While Ilya was not named a medalist at the 16th Van Cliburn International Piano Competition last night, as one of the six finalists, he earned a $10,000 prize, and he won $5,000 for the “Best Performance of a Mozart Concerto” award. After being a finalist in the 16th Van Cliburn International Piano Competition on June 19th and winning the award for Best Performance of a Mozart Concerto, Park International Center for Music graduate student, Ilya Shmukler, spoke with The Kansas City Star writer Patrick Neas. Read the story here
Six pianists out of 16 semi-finalists were chosen to participate in the The Cliburn 2022 final round. Each finalist will perform two concertos, to be selected from two separate lists, with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra and conductor Marin Alsop.
The schedule for all six competitors can be found below. Ilya’s first performance is tomorrow, June 14, 7:30 pm CST. The final performances are all to be held in Bass Performance Hall in Ft. Worth, Texas. Bios for the six finalists can be found at Cliburn.org.
