Press Release: Award-Winning Musicians Headline Park ICM’s 2021-2022 Season

New Season Begins With a BANG!
American Pianists Awards Winner Kenny Broberg And the KC Chamber Orchestra in Helzberg Hall

KANSAS CITY, MO (August 16, 2021) — Park International Center for Music (Park ICM) announced today that their 2021-2022 Season would once again open at the premiere location to hear classical music in Kansas City, the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts. “We’re kicking off our fourth performance season with THE opportunity to see Kansas City’s most decorated pianist, Kenny Broberg,” said Lisa Hickok, Executive Director. “This summer, Kenny gave us all something to watch as he competed in the coveted American Pianists Awards. Up against some of America’s greatest classical music talents, KENNY WON!! Of course we had to throw him a HUGE musical party and what better way to celebrate being back with live audiences than to take it to the Kauffman Center with our friends at the Kansas City Chamber Orchestra.”

A student of Cliburn gold medalist Stanislav Ioudenitch at Park ICM, Kenny, 28, continues to build a reputation as “one of the most intelligent and intense artists on the concert stage today (Theater Jones) with fresh interpretations complemented by a natural, honest stage presence.” Having won the silver medal in the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in 2017, the Bronze Medal in the Tchaikovsky International Competition in 2019, and his recent win of the top prize at the 2021 American Pianists Awards on June 27, Kenny has become one of the most highly decorated pianists in the world.

According to Hickok, Kenny’s win was just the most recent reason why Kansas City audiences are starting to find and applaud Park ICM. “Kenny was the only A.P.A. finalist from a small, mid-western music conservatory. The other four (finalists) were from Julliard, Yale . . . the schools you would expect. Kenny is the latest Park ICM graduate to bring national and international attention to Kansas City. We are thrilled that the Kauffman Center, Power & Light Building, and even City Hall took notice, lit up the skies over downtown in Park University maroon and gold the night that he won, and supported Kenny, Park University and the world-class arts education taking place right here in Kansas City.”

Presented by Park University and the Kansas City Chamber Orchestra, Kansas City Celebrates Kenny Broberg, September 14, 2021, 7:00 p.m., in Helzberg Hall at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts, is Kenny’s first concert appearance since winning the coveted award. Featuring the gorgeous Chopin Piano Concerto No. 1 and the fiery virtuosity of the Dante Sonata, this is Kansas City audiences’ one opportunity to experience Kenny’s artistry before he heads off for an international concert career this fall. The first half will feature a solo recital by Kenny including the following:

  1. Ludwig van Beethoven: Piano Sonata No. 8 in C minor, Op. 13 “Pathétique”
  2. Nikolai Medtner: Fairy Tales Op. 20, No. 1; Op. 26, No. 2, 3
  3. Frantz Liszt: Après une lecture du Dante – Fantasia Quasi Sonata

In the second half, the Kansas City Chamber Orchestra will take the stage with Ludwig van Beethoven: Overture to “Egmont,” Op. 84. They will then by joined by Kenny Broberg for the finale, the Piano Concerto No. 1 in E minor, Op. 11, by Frédéric Chopin. Tickets are available at https://tickets.kauffmancenter.org/18780 or by calling 816-994-7222. Questions will be answered by calling 816-960-1324.

In addition to the premiere concert at the Kauffman Center, Park ICM will have six extraordinary offerings this coming year, all being performed at the 1900 Building in Mission Woods, Kansas. “With the 1900 Building’s two fabulous concert halls and the celebrated 1900 Restaurant right on site, our audiences can have an exquisite evening with fine food and wines, and the best of classical music,” continued Hickok. The Park ICM 2021-2022 Performance Series includes:

He was the first violinist to receive the coveted Avery Fisher Prize and won First Prize at the Naumburg International Competition.

Oliveira is passionate about expanding the role and repertoire of the violin as well as championing contemporary music and unjustly neglected works. He is a devoted teacher and promoter of young artists, and also keenly supports the art of contemporary violin and bow making. Oliveira’s program will include J.S. Bach’s Sonata for Violin and Harpsichord (Piano) in A major, BMV 1015, Johannes Brahms Sonata No. 1 for Violin and Piano in G major, Op. 78 and P.I. Tchaikovsky’s Meditation. ABOUT PARK INTERNATIONAL CENTER FOR MUSIC – Park ICM was established (ICM.Park.Edu) at Park University in 2003. This All-Steinway School trains and educates the next generation of accomplished musicians in a focused and creative atmosphere with an international faculty of renowned excellence. Park ICM offers degree, certificate and diploma programs at the graduate and undergraduate levels. Our courses of study are focused in the areas of performance in violin, viola, cello and piano. At the core of all ICM programs is one-on-one studio instruction providing vital interactions between the student and master faculty, now entering its 19th season. This extremely exclusive music academy selects just over 30 students each year to study in the historic European apprenticeship tradition. Each student receives individual studio instruction twice weekly. Park’s amazing campus provides focused and uninterrupted practice time 24-hours daily in a serene and extremely supportive environment. The international faculty’s incredible network of acquaintances throughout the world provide for master classes with renowned guest artists in each performance degree. The European tradition demands public concerts as part of student training that creates performances alongside faculty in sublime intimate concerts throughout Kansas City. Ultimately, the Park ICM master faculty mentors inspiring apprentice musicians and trains them in music and performance. The master faculty also coaches musicianship and career development so that the students will become award-winning musicians, traveling the world and entertaining the most discerning music lovers across all continents.
